Imagine finding this electrical mess in your kitchen ceiling?
This is exactly what we found after we removed the sheet rock in the ceiling of a recent condo remodel. The sheet rock removal was not part of the original scope of work , but was only removed to help discover why the electrical wasn’t making sense.
Not only does this not meet building codes, the previous contractor covered this mess with another layer of sheet rock, which severely violates another code.
We were suspicious of the original electrical panel only to have our licensed electrician confirm and strongly recommend that we replace the panel. Upon further investigation we also verified that it was very unsafe. This particular panel has a bad reputation for the breakers not tripping when they should, which could have severe or even fatal consequences.
This is a perfect example of why home owners should use licensed contractors. An electrical permit should have been issued for all the previous electrical work , as we have done for our work, and this allows the work to be inspected preventing the above unsafe practices from occurring.
