Marina District Flats contemporary kitchen

I’m seeing more and more hardwood floors installed in today’s kitchen remodel, and I love it.

There is nothing wrong with stone or tile in the kitchen for durability, especially in vacation rental properties however, the warmth and richness of  hardwoods also has a wonderful appeal.

Yes, a water leak from the fridge or dishwasher may damage a hardwood floor, but a hardwood floor will withstand the everyday wear and tear better than most homeowners may expect, including the occasional spill.
I also  find walking or working on a hardwood floor a lot easier on the back, therefore in the kitchen makes sense to me.
Don’t rule out hardwood flooring in the kitchen as an option when considering a kitchen remodel.
Aloha

Aquila wash basin

This sink has to be one of my personal favorites by Ammonitum.  As a woodworker, I’ve often wondered if a wooden sink was possible. This company not only makes them, they excel in every way. Possibly because they are in the yacht business as well.

Taurus wash basin

I now have a new goal to strive for……………the making of  an exotic hardwood bowl in my woodshop. With the wide variety of exotic woods on Maui, it should be a lot of fun as well.

As a remodeling contractor, I also look forward to incorporating this type of design in one of our future projects.

Aloha and greetings from the Island of Maui.

What is Travertine? Why do contractors love it?

January 8, 2011

Contractors love travertine because of it’s natural beauty and ease of use. It is much softer than other natural stones but strong enough for home remodeling. Travertine is a form of limestone deposited by mineral springs, especially hot springs. Travertine often has a fibrous or concentric appearance and exists in white, tan and cream-colored varieties. It is formed [...]
